CARRYING ON ‘THE DREAM’

The mission of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Westfield is to keep the memory of Dr. King alive by focusing the community on the important tenets from the words and life of Dr. King. To achieve this mission the Association will annually sponsor an Interfaith Commemoration Service that will uphold and emphasize these tenets.

The Association will endeavor to further Dr. King’s message through other activities that will encourage children and families to practice the principles of justice, fairness, brotherhood, and non-violent community action espoused by Dr. King.

Our Initiatives:

Annual Interfaith Service

In 1987 a group of community and religious leaders in Westfield, New Jersey came together to organize so that Westfielders could collectively celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. We held our first service on January 1988 at the town’s Bethel Baptist Church.

Each year at the service we award students of the Westfield School District for essay writing, poetry, and artwork.

On-Going Initiatives

We organize and sponsor actions, events, and fundraisers to help support our community through public programming, open dialogues, scholarships, and more.

Community Actions

From marches to vigils and peaceful protests, we help organize and unify our community with peace, love, and justice in mind.
